Coláiste Mhuigheo is located in the Mayo Gaeltacht of Ceathrú Thaidgh in what is one of the most scenic areas in Ireland. We are located 2 minutes for one of the most picturesque and sheltered beaches in Ireland, which provides a unique backdrop to all of our water sports and beach activities.
Want the Gaeltacht experience?
Experience Gaeilge in its natural environment, an Ghaeltacht! If this interests you we can provide the entire school tour through the medium of an Ghaeilge, as all of our staff; from teachers to instructors are líofa sa Ghaeilge. We can make an Ghaeilge a fun and enjoyable pastime as we have been doing for some time now, and in doing so hope to change student’s opinions to a more positive attitude towards the Irish language.
We can of course also offer bi-lingual tours or tours through the medium of English, you decide and we can work together to design the perfect tour for you.

At Colásite Mhuigheo we understand (more than most!) that bringing students away on a school trip can be hard work for teachers. We aim to make your school tour as hassle-free as possible, from the initial consultation down to organising buses to your school (if required).We will work with you to tailor-make the ideal school trip that suits both your requirements and your budget.
We aim to please as much as possible! Your school trip can include a mixture of water sports, land-based activities, team-building challenges such as orienteering, formal Irish classes and even environmental education (bog walks etc); again, its up to you. Get in contact with us and you can plan your school tour and decide where and what you would like to do for your tour.
Students will be accommodated with our Roinn na Gaeltachta approved Bean an Tí’s, thus leaving teachers with the free time to relax, explore the scenic countryside that is North West Mayo, join in with water sports or even catch-up on that dreaded marking!
In the evening students are entertained by experienced instructors with céilí dancing, themed nights, games and much more. As with all of our courses, safety is of the upmost importance and students are fully supervised. Coláiste Mhuigheo can also arrange a tour within a tour, where students can be bused to; historical sights, museums, and activities (bowling, quasar etc) for their education and entertainment.
Primary Schools
Coláiste Mhuigheo is a functioning Coláiste Samhraidh and is equipped with 5 classrooms, a large halla, basketball and volleyball courts and a football pitch. These facilities along with our plethora of indoor games and activities will ensure that every child is catered for whether in English or as Gaeilge. Combine these activities for the land lubbers with our extensive fleet of kayaks, wind surfers, surf boards, body board and skim boards and we think that you’ll find a vast amount of activities to keep everyone happy for the duration of the tour. All water sports are carried out in a very safe environment by a highly experienced and qualified instructor in one of the most sheltered and scenic beaches in the country.
Coláiste Mhuigheo hope, that by using a structured day in which a large variety of activities are enjoyed. We know that children will be sad on departing the Coláiste!
Transition Year
Transition year, what to do, what to do? Well at Coláiste Mhuigheo we can work in conjunction with you to come up with a fun yet educational transition year trip.
All transition year trips combine a selection of water and land based activities (listed above) and environmental education (such as hill and/or bog walks) as Gaeilge, English or half&half.
All our transition year trips can be customised to suit your requirements and budget.
