Coláiste Mhuigheo will provide online courses this summer to replace the cancelled courses using the Zoom application.

Course dates:

The course will consist of 2 weeks of coursework with a four-hour timetable 5 days a week. Courses will take place throughout June, July & August.

The courses will be taught by post primary and primary teachers from Coláiste Mhuigheo who have a deep understanding and knowledge relating to both the junior and leaving cert cycle.

Cost – €200 in total (€100 deposit already paid)

Schedule

The daily schedule will consist of four half hour classes followed by one hour of online independent tasks, assigned and assessed by the class teacher. One hour of interactive games and oral language tasks will also be assigned. This will provide the teacher and student time to actively participate in the learning process and allow for assessment and feedback to each student.

Lessons

Lessons will be thematic in nature with an emphasis on oral language, conversational skills along with teaching various topics for both the junior and leaving certificate. Each lesson will be recorded, allowing students to return to the lesson at a later date for active revision. Classes will consist of no more than 12 students per class. The college will group students based on their class level according to this school year. We will try to group friends together as much as possible, depending on class level.

Learning Materials

Students will have access to learning materials on Edmodo and on Google Classroom, where they can be downloaded. These learning materials will remain open to access throughout the school year.

Requirements

  • High speed broadband.
  • Tablet or Laptop, PC or Mac with a webcam for class work.
  • Mobile device for completing interactive aspects of the course.
  • Headphones (ideal for better quality when recording audio work).
  • A quiet space for focused learning.
  • Zoom application. (Passwords and log in information will be provided).
  • Documents to be downloaded prior to lesson to allow students to be prepared and actively engaged.
  • Access to google classroom / Edmodo (password and login information will be provided).

  • Essay Writing – Essay, alt & díospóireacht.
  • Comprehension – Answering techniques and skills.
  • Filíocht – Analysis of poetry with sample answers and notes.
  • Prós – In depth analysis of the major prose pieces from the syllabus
  • Oral exam preparation: Structure, Fáiltiú, Filíocht, Comhrá Ginearálta, sraith pictiúir.
  • Grammar- All major aspects of grammar will be covered
  • Aural Comprehension – Answering techniques and mock aural practice.
